About

I began exploring photography as art in an introduction to the dark room world at Cabrillo College in the spring of 2017. My son Elliot and I took the course together. I followed up with a few more classes in the following years, and Elliot went off to college to study photography (lovellphoto.net). As a member of the Center for Photographic Arts in Carmel I have also had the opportunity to listen to talks by several photographers -including Scott Strazzanti, Louie Palu, Roman Loranc, Ted Orland-and participate in workshops including the famous three-day PIE institute.

Most of my work is digital, though I do like to pull out my Holga, Diana F+, and Rollei now and then. As a photographer I can get bored pretty easily. Does the world really need another image of a tree, or a sunset? I gravitate towards the experimental and the odd. I recently started photographing road kill, and garbage in irrigation ditches. That also explains my recent obsession with sea wrack material.

Not all my projects are on the fringe. I’m also drawn to work that documents human emotion and the places we live. Thus the “Joy of Water” and the “Hwy 152 “ series.

I live with my family in Santa Cruz county, along the Monterey Bay in California. For the past 31 years I have worked in the public school system, both in the classroom and in administration. If you are interested in purchasing images or using my images please email me.

Be well.
